Castle Douglas Golden Day Club members celebrate success of champion volunteer Hollie Nelson

Golden Day Club members in Castle Douglas celebrated the success of their champion volunteer last week.

Hollie Nelson was named Young Volunteer of the Year at Age Scotland’s 2019 Glasgow last month.

The popular 30-year-old’s well-deserved award delighted everyone associated withthe club.

And last Thursday members were thrilled when Hollie brought in her trophy and framed certificate for them to see.

Club team leader Martin Fortnum said: “Our members were delighted to see what Hollie had won.

“They were very pleased for her that she won the award. It went down really well.

“She also let them see letters of congratulation from Alister Jack and Finlay Carson.”

Mr Fortnum added: “Hollie is such a great asset and is not resting on her laurels.

Talented youngsters enjoy Greatest Show Easter camp at Castle Douglas High School  

“She’s organising a soup and sweet lunch in Castle Douglas Parish Church hall on Saturday, May 4 to raise funds for the club. Hollie just loves to be part of everything and doing all she can to help.”

The club operates from Castle Douglas Community Centre on Cotton Street every Tuesday and Thursday from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

It provides lunches and social activities for older people living locally.
