Castle Douglas gets into the Christmas spirit with festive fun day

More than 120 kids took the chance to meet Santa Claus when he dropped in to Castle Douglas on Sunday.

The great man visited the town as part of a Christmas fun day at Market Hill.

It was organised by Castle Douglas Development Forum’s inclusive playpark sub committee and also featured a snow scene, music, face painting and a fayre in the British Legion.

Sub committee chairman Tracy Walker said: “We had great support. We were pleasantly surprised between the weather and two or three of the choirs and the fun fair pulled out because of the increasing coronvirus cases.

“We had mulled wine and hot chocolate and we actually ran out.

“We have extended the lucky squares competition until Sunday as we still have a few left.

“We’ve raised about £400 but that could go up once the lucky squares is finished.”

The sub committee is hoping to organise other fundraising events depending on coronavirus restrictions.
