Castle Douglas football match raises £1,500 for charity

A charity football match in Castle Douglas on Sunday raised £1,500.

Stevie Johnston and Lee Anderson organised the match at Meadow Park for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Lee lives in Kirkcudbright with wife Soenaid, who is getting ready to run this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the charity.

Their teenage daughter, Maisie, was diagnosed with type one diabetes in 2015 and since then Lee and local pharmacist Soenaid have raised tens of thousands of pounds for the charity.

Sunday’s game saw a convincing win for Lee’s DuPont JDRF team over Stevie’s team of waste collection staff from the council.

Thanks go to all those who donated to the raffle including The Market Inn for the cocktails and combo voucher and Lee Anderson and Glen Cunningham for the trailer of firewood.

Thanks also to Sheila’s Taxis for donating and presenting the trophy, DuPont for their sponsorship, Threave Rovers for use of the ground and opening the bar and all players for playing and donating as well as the match officials for giving up their Sunday.

■ This year’s London Marathon is on October 2 and anyone who would like to sponsor Soenaid – who took part in the race for JDRF in 2019 – can do so at https://tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/soenaid-anderson
