Castle Douglas DJ's home-a-thon discos raises hundreds of pounds for charity

People staying at home have helped raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Castle Douglas entertainer Raymond McQuarrie has been keeping the party going as he continues his home-a-thon discos during lockdown.

And over the past two weeks, £585 has been raised for people suffering from lung cancer or from COPD – something the police officer himself has.

Raymond said: “We had about 570 folk on Sunday night and 780 on Saturday. It was about the same the week before.

“We raised £585 in just two weeks which is brilliant.”

Rocking Raymondo’s home-a-thon discos started during the first lockdown last March and have continued ever since.

They’ve proven extremely popular – and one of the few good things about the ongoing pandemic is there’s no sign of the entertainment stopping.

Well-known Elvis impersonator Raymond said: “I’ll still be doing them as it’s keeping folk entertained. It’s been nearly a year now. It’ll be the 50th one soon and I’m turning 50 as well. They’ll be carrying on.”

To join in search for Rocking Raymondo on Facebook. Every Saturday at 8pm there is a home-a-thon disco with a country music night at 7pm on Sundays.
