Castle Douglas DJ live streaming disco nights from his home to keep up spirits during coronavirus

With the Stewartry being on lockdown, it’s almost enough to have residents singing Jailhouse Rock.

But Raymond McQuarrie has come up with a novel way of keeping spirits high while everyone is stuck inside due to the coronavirus crisis.

On Saturday nights, the Castle Douglas entertainer is bringing his Rocking Raymondo’s disco to the world - live from his living room.

Raymond - who is also well known as one of the country’s best Elvis impersonators - has been bringing joy to thousands of people by live streaming from his living room for the past couple of Saturday nights.

And he’s set to keep the party going for as long as necessary as the current situation means he is back home in the Stewartry from his day job as a police constable with the Metropolitan Police in Barking and Dagenham.

Raymond, who was nominated for a Pride of Britain award last year, said: “The first time I did it I thought Id maybe get two or three folk watching but there were 2,600 people watching me!

“It wasn’t just people in Dumfries and Galloway, it was New Zealand, California and all around the world.

“I just thought with all the doom and gloom at the moment, especially in Dumfries and Galloway, I thought I’d try to lift the mood.

“I did it again on Saturday and I’ll keep doing it as long as I can as it’s not as if I can go out.

“I’ve done a song about coronavirus as well and did a wee video playing pots and pans in my kitchen - people were saying I was mad!

“If I can’t bring the disco to you, I can bring the music from my living room to yours and everyone can have a wee dance.”

Everyone is welcome to watch along from 8pm on a Saturday and Sunday night - and the odd Monday night as well. Just search for Rocking Raymondo on Facebook.
