Castle Douglas community choir finally able to hold debut concert

After more than two years of being unable to do what they love best, SongWave Choir was finally able to hold its debut concerts at the end of June.

Formerly known as the Feral Choir, the newly renamed ensemble entertained audiences in Dalbeattie, Crossmichael and Kirkcudbright with songs from all over the world, interspersed with related readings on subjects ranging from the plight of refugees to the joys of childhood in summer and followed by light refreshments.

Kate Howard, their new musical director, was delighted at how well the concerts were received.

She said: “It’s an honour and a pleasure for me to have been asked to take over such a wonderful group of singers.

“They never fail to give of their best.”

Choir chairperson Jo Gallant summed up the thoughts of all the singers.

She said: “After two very difficult years for all choirs it was so lovely to be singing again for real and to real people.

“We’d particularly like to express our thanks to the CatStrand for embarking on a joint promotion with us and the community of Crossmichael for a sumptuous spread of refreshments for choir and audience alike.”

SongWave will resume meeting for rehearsals in the autumn term, starting with a taster day on September 4.

Anyone wishing to sing with the group or be kept up to date with future events can sign up for the newsletter via the choir’s website www.songwavechoir.org.uk
