Castle Douglas butcher's pork sausages are the best in Scotland

A Castle Douglas butcher is toasting a sizzling success.

Ballards on King Street has won the award for the best pork sausages in Scotland.

The accolade is presented every two years by Scottish Craft Butchers.

And it was double success as the shop also landed the award for the best haggis in the south west.

Owner Jimmy Craig said: “It’s quite an achievement to win for the sausages and the haggis. It’s a recipe we have used in the shop for years and we tweaked it a few years ago.

"We always try to do our best.”
