Castle Douglas Army Cadet achieves double success in national first aid championships

A Castle Douglas Army Cadet is celebrating a double success in a national championship.

Harvey Stalker took both second and third place in the 51st Brigade Scottish First Aid Championships which were held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Seventeen-year-old Harvey is a member of the West Lowland Battalion Army Cadets.

Their medical support officer Derek Ross, who lives in Castle Douglas, said: “This year it was done virtually and they made up and treated their own wounds.

“When we sent the entries in and got them back we discovered Harvey had finished second and third.

“When sharing photos on social media one of his simulation wounds was blanked over as explicit content due to it being so real and lifelike.

“He was absolutely over the moon.”
