Casting the Bears as ‘Game of Thrones’ characters

Much like the characters in Game of Thrones are fighting a battle to win the Iron Throne, the reigning Kings of the North, the Chicago Bears are looking to ascend to the top of the NFL.

With Game of Thrones winding down its final season, we thought it’d be fun to play a little casting director with Bears players and staff as Game of Thrones characters.

From the King of the North to the MVP no one sees coming to the undersized one that will just as easily destroy you, let’s take a look at the members of House Halas and how they compare to their Game of Thrones counterparts.

Mitch Trubisky is Jon Snow

The King of the North. The one everyone depends on to lead them into battle. Like Jon, Trubisky is a born leader who has all the physical attributes but sometimes can get into his head. He’s the one everyone — teammates, coaches and fans — expects to lead them to the promised land. It’s a tough burden to shoulder, but he’ll gladly take it.

Khalil Mack is Daenerys Targaryen

You’re smart to fear the Khaleesi herself, Daenerys, just like everyone in the NFL is smart to fear Khalil Mack. Daenerys and Mack have a lot in common, including the fact that they’re the player that has the most going for them. They’re the MVP everyone sees coming and yet they continue to dominate on a weekly basis.

Kyle Fuller is Jaime Lannister

It took Kyle Fuller a few years to develop into the All-Pro cornerback that he is today, and it’s just like Jaime Lannister’s path to redemption. They’re the guys that you expect to be bad but actually turn out to be good.

Akiem Hicks is the Mountain

Akiem Hicks is freakishly big, freakishly strong and freakishly talented, much like his counterpart the Mountain. They’re both much quicker than you’d expect possible from men of that size. Hicks uses his agility and quickness as a dominant pass rusher and strong interior run defender.

Eddie Goldman is Brienne of Tarth

As far as underrated players on the Bears, Eddie Goldman ranks near the top, which comes with the territory of being a nose tackle solidifying the Bears’ defensive line. Just like Brienne, Goldman is one of the best athletes that somehow doesn’t the credit he deserves.

Tarik Cohen is Grey Worm

No one thought Tarik Cohen would survive yet alone thrive in the NFL for a man of his 5’6” stature. But just like Grey Worm, Cohen is the one you underestimate because he’s too little, and then he kicks your ass.

Eddie Jackson is Arya Stark

It’s hard to believe that Eddie Jackson was a fourth-round pick, but look at the All-Pro safety now. He’s been working over the past two seasons to become one of the best safeties in the NFL, much like Arya has been training to be a skilled warrior. Jackson is a fearless competitor with great instincts and anticipation. Arya and Jackson are the MVPs you didn’t see coming. Or maybe you did.

Leonard Floyd is Sansa Stark

If there’s one thing that people have learned about Sansa Stark over the years, it’s that they’ve severely underestimated her, not unlike Leonard Floyd, who has similarly had to endure setbacks en route to finding stability.

Ryan Pace is Tyrion Lannister

While Pace isn’t on the front of the battlefield, he uses his wit and intellect to get the best of his opponents, not unlike Tyrion. While Tyrion has had to deal with people doubting his worth, Pace has had to prove himself as a young general manager in the NFL.

Matt Nagy is Jorah Mormont

Every quarterback needs a mentor, and that’s exactly why the Bears brought Matt Nagy into the fold. Like Jorah, Daenerys’ trusted advisor, Nagy guides his young quarterback Mitch Trubisky into battle. He’s faithful, intelligent, valiant and a great fighter.
