The cast has been announced for Trainspotting: The Musical as it prepares to head out on a UK tour after its West End debut.
The production, which is based on the best-selling novel by Irvine Welsh, which was later adapted into a hit 1996 film starring Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle, will head to cities including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester after debuting at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket on July 15.
Welsh said of the production: “I believe the musical has a bigger, loudly beating human heart than either the book or the film.

“People need to think about the world we’re living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off. It’s what being human is all about.
“We’ve put together an incredible Scottish cast and I can’t wait to see them bring the musical to life.”
Scottish actor Robbie Scott, who will star in the London production this summer as Mark Renton, a heroin addict in Edinburgh navigating poverty, friendship and addiction alongside his dysfunctional peers, will remain in the role for the tour.
He will be joined by fellow Scottish actors Sheridan Townsley as Sick Boy, Kieran Andrew as Spud, Frankie O’Connor as Begbie, Finlay Paul as Tommy, Rebecca McKinnis as Cathy Renton, Gordon Cooper as Davie Renton, Ashley J Russell as Colleen, Rosie Dignan as Alison, Yana Harris as Kelly, and Sophie Hutchinson as Lizzie.
The tour will open at the Edinburgh Playhouse on October 19, with stops in Sheffield, Manchester, York, Hull, Ipswich, Birmingham, Leeds, Blackpool, Stoke, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Cardiff, Southend, Bradford, Oxford, Sunderland, Dumferline, Brighton, and Glasgow, before returning to Edinburgh in March 2027.
Trainspotting: The Musical will feature music and lyrics written by Edinburgh-born Welsh musician Stephen McGuinness.
The production, directed and developed by Caroline Jay Ranger, will also include popular tracks from the cult classic film.
It has been described as “the ultimate anti-musical” and a depiction of “who we are”.
Trainspotting The Musical will open in the West End at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket on July 15.
