Cassius Winston named #1 player in the country by Andy Katz

Every summer, college hoops fans patiently await the reveal of Andy Katz’s top-25 player rankings heading into the season. This year, Michigan State fans had a little extra motivation to pay attention as there were a few Spartans who were assuredly going to be included, and the rankings this year did not disappoint. First, Xavier Tillman was listed as the #20 player in the country. But today, something special happened when Cassius Winston was officially recognized as the #1 player in the NCAA heading into the season.

Here is what Andy Katz had to say about Cassius:

“He could be possibly the preseason player of the year. He’s an extension of Tom Izzo. In a program that’s had exceptional point guards, for decades, he could be one of the best college basketball point guards at Michigan State… He’s got a chance to leave a legacy, leave a mark, to not just win player of the year, Big Ten or Nationally, but take Michigan State back to a Final Four and this time win it.”
