Cassanova McKinzy is starting to stand out for Redskins

The Washington Redskins might be even better than expected when it comes to the pass-rush.

Thank developmental project Cassanova McKinzy, a former undrafted player who has worked hard at his craft since 2016 and was recently rewarded with the second spot on the depth chart behind Ryan Kerrigan.

“When you’ve got somebody in your room like Ryan Kerrigan, man, it’s pretty easy to do the right thing,” McKinzy said, according to Redskins.com’s Andrew Breitfelder. “I just follow him and follow his lead. He’s a leader and you just follow him. When you’ve got people like that in your room it makes it a lot easier for me.”

McKinzy went down with a season-ending injury last year but was already back for camp and made an impact in both of the preseason games.

While the Redskins added Montez Sweat, it sure doesn’t hurt to have a guy like McKinzy developing at this pace coming out of an offseason where they lost a pressure creator like Preston Smith.

At this pace, it shouldn’t be a shock to see McKinzy on the field rather often next season.
