Cashmere jumpers and Christmas: Anya Hindmarch eyes up Uniqlo for new collaboration

Your Christmas jumper options have just got a lot chicer, cuter and cheaper. Anya Hindmarch, the queen of Pont street, which houses her 5 stores selling everything from bespoke luxury handbags to iced buns.

The result is a tight edit of knitwear, jumpers and accessories (hats, gloves, scarves and one shopper bag) which are christened with Hindmarch’s trademark eyes motif. The designer eschews heavy branding for instead a quick dose of recognisable wit. The eyes peak out from beanie hats and the top of socks, and give a side-eye on knitwear.

An avid Uniqlo fan, Hindmarch chose some of the brand’s classic shapes and added her own design twist to them. “I decided not to mess with their brilliant silhouettes, but instead to play with them; deconstructing and then rebuilding them with different stitches and exposed seams – and in turn leaving all sort of little design details to make pulling on your knitwear the favorite part of your day” she says. So there’s a lambswool crewneck sweater with darning details and contrasting colour on one sleeve, a cashmere knit has hand-stitching around the shoulders, hem and sleeves. They come in dependable, timeless colour ways, grey, navy, forest green and a muted orange for those you fancy something more statement-y this winter season. There are similar options for kids, too.

If this has piqued your Hindmarch-fan attention, then do keep an eye on Pont street, too, where Christmas is soon to take over. The Anya cafe will be turning out igloo fruit cakes and mince pies. Santa will be in residence at London’s coolest grotto from November 13th, where you can also pick up tree decorations, gingerbread men and all manner of Hindmarch-ified cheering festive treats, plus an all new wreath hut.

While for something more poignant, next week sees the annual opening of Grosvenor Square's beautiful Ever After garden, the annual memorial initiative created by Hindmarch and fashion writer Camilla Morton, where you can "plant" a lighted rose in remembrance of a lost loved one. While dedications are free, donations can be made to the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Uniqlo X Anya Hindmarch, from £7.90 to £109.90 on sale from 23rd November
