Cash stolen from elderly woman after men tell her to go upstairs and flush her toilet

Police have launched an appeal after an elderly lady had cash taken in a distraction burglary.

The woman, who lives in West Avenue in Stapleford, answered her front door to a man who said her water needed turning off following a leak.

After telling the lady about the leak, the man then asked her to go upstairs and flush her toilet.

She then returned downstairs to see three men in her living room.

An amount of cash was stolen in the incident, which happened at around 5.40pm on Wednesday, September 4.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are appealing for any witnesses, anyone who saw the incident or anything suspicious to get in contact.

"We are also keen to hear from any cold callers in the area.

"Please call 101 quoting incident number 664 of 4 September 2019."
