Cash stolen from elderly man in Meath by thieves 'pretending to be detectives'

Cash was stolen from an elderly man in Co Meath on Friday morning after two men entered his home while "pretending to be Detectives".

The men called to his house in the Glane Great area of Dunsany at approximately 10am and "showed him something that appeared similar to a Garda badge."

A post about the incident on the Meath Crime Prevention Facebook page said: "They showed the man a sum of money claiming that they were investigating a crime involving counterfeit notes.

"They informed him that they needed to see all of his cash in order to compare it with the money they had."

The post says that the men then entered his house and took a sum of cash from his bedroom.

Gardai in Trim are investigating the incident and have urged anyone with any information to come forward.

They said: "If anyone was in the area at the time and noticed anyone acting suspiciously, or perhaps someone may have Dash Cam footage around the area of the L2207 (Dunsany to Kiltale Road) between 9.30am and 10.30am this morning are asked to please contact Trim Garda Station on 046 9481540.

"Please keep an eye on your neighbours, particularly the elderly and vulnerable. Report all suspicious callers and note their vehicle details if possible.

"Please pass this advice on to those within your community who may not have access to social media."
