Cash payments suspended at all Wirral car parks after thefts and vandalism

Cash payments at all Wirral car parks have been suspended after pay and display machines across the borough were hit by a spate of thefts and vandalism.

Wirral Council made the announcement yesterday and said they will be carrying out repairs and security upgrades on pay and display machines at various locations across Wirral in a bid to deal with the problem.

Motorists in the borough are being advised that charges will remain in place and for people to use alternative payment methods instead while the works are being carried out.

A spokesperson for the council said people can continue to use the JustPark app, the council's phone payment system as well as contactless and card payments for the time being to pay for parking in on and off street bays across Wirral.

Posting on the Wirral council Facebook page yesterday, a spokesperson said: "Attention car owners!

Due to thefts and vandalism to pay and display car parking machines, we’ve had to temporarily suspend cash payments at all council-owned car parks and on-street parking.

"This is so we can do the repairs and security improvements that are needed.

The spokesperson added: "Our teams are working to repair or replace machines as fast as they can and we'll update our website with any further news. We apologise for any inconvenience."
