Cash lifeline for CCTV in Otley and Yeadon

Crime fighting in Otley and Yeadon received a boost this week as local councillors approved an extra £13,500 funding to maintain CCTV cameras in the area.

Leeds councillors Colin Campbell, Ryk Downes and Graham Kirkland (Lib Dem, Otley & Yeadon), had called on fellow councillors on the Outer North West Area Committee backed their calls to continue funding the popular CCTV scheme.

The councillors have handed a lifeline to the successful programme, which saw CCTV installed on Yeadon high street and in Otley town centre in 2008. The scheme has been credited with creating a feeling of security in the towns as well as helping to deter criminal activity.

Campbell said:

"I am pleased we have been able to secure the funding to maintain the important crime prevention measure in Yeadon and Otley.

"The cameras have provided popular with the public because they help maintain a feeling of security in the town centres and deter crime.

"They have also been successful in solving a number of crimes with several people behind bars because of the evidence they provide."
