Cash is being raised for Edinburgh Thomas Cook staff who lost jobs after holiday firm collapsed

Cash is being raised for Thomas Cook staff in Edinburgh who lost their jobs when the holiday firm collapsed.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Lynne Russell, the sister of one of the employees, in a bid to raise £2500.

Thomas Cook announced at the start of the week that it had ceased trading, with all flights cancelled and retail shops shut down.

Around 9000 jobs are thought to have been lost, with Edinburgh stores on Hanover Street, at Cameron Toll Shopping Centre and the Gyle all closing down.

The funding page has been organised to help support staff from Hanover Street dubbed 'the famous five', with Lynne posting: "My sister Hazel is one of thousands of people who lost their jobs with the collapse of Thomas Cook.

"Her, along with her colleagues Laura, Craig, Philip and Alfie, have worked for over 20 years with the company and will not be paid wages due next week.

"I have had some amazing holidays booked by them and although there are a lot of angry people out there it is not the people in the shops faults.

"They have lost lots more than a holiday they have lost their jobs, their life, the way to support their family and pay their bills and mortgages.

"These famous five stayed loyal to Thomas Cook and its customers along with thousands of others even though there had been media speculation for months and ended up losing a job they all loved.

"So please donate to try and make it easier on Thomas cook staff."

So far around £150 has been raised. To contribute, click here.
