Cash in transit van 'significantly damaged' during attempted robbery in Clongriffin

A cash in transit van was "significantly damaged" during an robbery attempt in north Dublin this morning.

The van was damaged when a number of men managed to gain entry to the van shortly before midday today in Grange Lodge Avenue, Clongriffin.

The would-be thieves didn't manage to get away with any money during the robbery attempt but did cause extensive damage to the van.

Footage taken after the incident shows damage to the side door of the vehicle.

The men had arrived in white Volkswagen Caddy van that was later found burnt out a short distance away.

Gardai are investigating the incident.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai are investigating a criminal damage/ attempted robbery incident involving a cash in transit van that occurred in the Grange Lodge Avenue area of Clongriffin on 4/11/19 at approximately 11:45am.

"A number of males gained entry to the van while it was parked causing significant criminal damage to the vehicle. 

"The men arrived at and left the scene in a 2004 D registered White Volkswagen Caddy Van which was found burnt out a short distance away. The van has been removed for forensic examination.

"No cash was taken as part of this incident and no injuries were sustained. Investigations are ongoing."
