Cash & Carry bosses accused of putting lives at risk after coronavirus outbreak

Bosses at M9 Cash & Carry in Falkirk have been accused of putting lives at risk after claims they delayed telling staff about positive coronavirus cases.

Workers are demanding answers and worry that because they were not told right away, it could lead to a massive outbreak.

The first confirmed cases were reported on Monday, but those who work at the food wholesale depot, say they were not informed about it until Wednesday.

A worker, who did not want to be named, said: "I understand they want to protect business and keep us safe, but by not telling staff, that's very low.

"A lot of people have been working with those who have tested positive and then need to go home to their families at night.

"They have not told us because they are worried they would lose custom, a lot of local retailers use us. But that's just life, a lot of businesses have lost custom because of the pandemic.

"Our bosses are just selfish, we are just a number to them."

The company says it acted "swiftly" and "informed all relevant authorities" when they were made aware of the positive cases.

A spokesperson for United M9 Cash & Carry said: "The welfare and safety of our staff and customers during the Pandemic is of huge importance to us.

"Following the positive COVID-19 test from a member of staff on Monday, we followed the stringent NHS Test and Trace protocols for our staff and engaged with all relevant authorities.

"As part of our commitment to operating in a responsible way during the Pandemic we also undertook bio fogging throughout the depot to provide further safety for our staff and customers."
