Cash and carry plans go in for former tax office

Plans have been submitted to build a large cash and carry at the site of a former Bootle tax office.

The plans, for Comben House in Netherton, also involve creating 12 commercial units and more than 100 parking spaces, according to documents submitted to Sefton Council.

The application, put forward by Empire Partners Ltd, follows an application for the right to demolish the existing buildings at the site submitted to the local authority earlier this year.

That application was also put forward by Empire Partners Ltd. The site was owned by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which later closed the site amid a major departmental shake-up.

According to the Land Registry, Comben House was last sold for £1m in 2018 to Guernsey-based Jolivet Investments Ltd.

When Empire Partners applied for permission to demolish the existing buildings at the site in January, it stated a planning application would be put forward later in the year for the nearly 23sq m site

According to the application, the main unit on the site would house a cash and carry covering over 7500 sq m, with 12 individual commercial units also to be constructed, each having a much smaller footprint of just over 200 sqm.

A total of 138 car parking spaces and 16 cycle stands are proposed to be included on the site.

The application was submitted to Sefton Council on Thursday April 20 and is currently open for comments before planning officers decide the next steps.
