Cases of coronvavirus in Bristol rise again with 21 more confirmed

A further 21 people have been infected with coronavirus in Bristol in just one day - bringing the city's total to 245.

It's likely the real figure is in the thousands because at the moment the government is only testing certain patients and some NHS workers.

As of Thursday, there were 165 confirmed cases in the South Gloucestershire, up from 155.

While North Somerset saw an increase of five, with 96 people falling ill with the virus.

The UK's coronavirus death toll now stands at 8,063.

England made up the vast majority of the new deaths, with 765 more dying, bringing the total number from 6,483 to 7,248.

The patients were aged between 24 and 103 years old. Worryingly, 43 of them - aged between 33 and 99 years old - had no known underlying health condition.

Scotland saw 81 new deaths, up from 366 to 447, while a further 41 patients have died in Wales, bringing the total number of deaths there to 286.

Northern Ireland saw four more deaths, bringing the total from 78 to 82.

While in Bristol today, it was revealed 100 student rooms have been made available to NHS staff working on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19

The Bristol University accommodation at 33 Colston Street will now be occupied by NHS workers and volunteers, with students being asked to offer their rooms as part of the scheme.
