Casemiro blow leaves Manchester United with another injury headache

Casemiro’s troubled start to the season has continued as he has been ruled out of Manchester United’s game against Sheffield United on Saturday with an ankle injury picked up playing for Brazil.

The midfielder, who is still recovering in his home country, is set to miss United’s next two matches, as he is suspended for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against FC Copenhagen, following his red card in the 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray.

United expect Casemiro back at their Carrington training complex early next week which could leave him in a race against time to be fit for the Manchester derby on 29 October.

The 31-year-old, who was hurt in Brazil’s 1-1 draw against Venezuela, was taken off at half-time in United’s last match, their 2-1 win over Brentford in a tactical switch after he had struggled.

Sofyan Amrabat, who missed Morocco’s matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia, is back in training and likely to be fit.

Sergio Reguilon, who has sat out United’s last four matches with a hamstring problem, is also back in contention, meaning manager Erik ten Hag could be able to call upon a specialist left-back again.
