YAMUNANAGAR: The police have registered a case against a man for allegedly sharing objectionable posts about Islam on the social media platform Instagram.
As per the information, an Instagram account with the name Virat Jaat had posted several objectionable posts about Islam, which hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.
A group of Muslim community members under the banner of Ambedkar Muslim Union and some workers of Bhim Army gathered at Chhachhrauli police station on Sunday and handed over their complaint to the police.
Rajesh Kumar Mohan, assistant superintendent of police (under training)-cum-SHO, Chhachhrauli police station said, "On the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), for inciting religious sentiments. The objectionable posts were shared on the Instagram account namely Virat Jaat, therefore, we wrote to Meta authorities and sought more information from them. We have received the details of the identity and working to trace the accused."
To a query, the SHO said that for the addition of the Information Technology Act to this case, they have written to the legal adviser for opinion.
The complainants alleged that the accused had been using highly objectionable language against Islam for long in his social media posts on Instagram.
