The criminal case against an MS sufferer for growing cannabis to treat her illness has been abandoned by the Crown Prosecution Service on public interest grounds.
Lezley Gibson, 55, was accused alongside her husband Mark of possessing and cultivating the drug at their home in Cumbria.
Ms Gibson was diagnosed with MS at the age of 21 and had for a decade up to 2017 been depending on a cannabis-based medicinal spray for respite from her symptoms.
When the spray was withdrawn she said she was forced to find an alternative source of cannabis, which helps manage intense pain, body spasms and sight loss.
The CPS yesterday offered no evidence, saying it was not in the public interest to proceed.
The couple were found not guilty.
