Case Keenum looked ‘sharper’ than Dwayne Haskins to start minicamp

As expected, the veteran quarterback looks better than the rookie to start Washington Redskins minicamp.

Case Keenum got in with the first team Tuesday and showed a bit of why the Redskins traded for him in the first place.

Jake Kring-Schreifels & Kyle Stackpole of Redskins.com shared the analysis:

Veteran Case Keenum looked to be the sharper of the two quarterbacks Tuesday. He delivered well-placed throws to several different receivers. He connected with Trey Quinn on a few short passes, Vernon Davis on a couple of out routes and Cam Sims on several different occasions.

As for No. 15 pick Dwayne Haskins, inconsistency was a problem that popped up throughout the day. But as the writeup notes, his playing behind reserve offensive linemen didn’t help matters.

For now, this isn’t anything too unexpected for the Redskins quarterbacks. But it should be interesting to see how the conversation shifts over the summer if Jay Gruden lets Haskins get in there with the first-team linemen.

While the quarterback battle isn’t being decided in June, Keenum performing as expected after joining a new team shouldn’t go underappreciated, either.
