Case Keenum has a problem with turnover-worthy deep passes

For the most part, Redskins quarterback Case Keenum has been solid so far in his first season in Washington. Through two games, he’s thrown for over 600 yards with five touchdowns and zero interceptions.

While Keenum has been far from the reason that the Redskins are 0-2, there are still several parts of his game that could use some improvements. Ahead of Week 3 in the NFL, ESPN broke down the biggest weaknesses for all 32 starting QBs in the NFL.

For Keenum, his kryptonite is too many turnover-worth passes, especially when throwing deep.

Even with his career year in Minnesota in 2017 factored in, Keenum has thrown the third-most turnover-worthy passes targeted at least 20 yards downfield since 2017. His adjusted completion percentage of just 41% and an accuracy rating on deep shots of 34.4% over that time are both bottom-tier figures among quarterbacks.

Keenum was brought in to Washington to act as a placeholder while rookie QB Dwayne Haskins waits in the wing. Some expected the veteran journeyman to be pulled after a few losses on the schedule, but so far Keenum has been far from the problem.
