Case dismissed against ex-49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock

Tramaine Brock, four months after being released by the 49ers for a domestic-violence arrest, has had his case dismissed by prosecutors.

Prosecutors dismissed the case Tuesday due to "insufficient evidence" as the alleged "victim declined to cooperate," according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.

As a free agent, Brock can sign with any team. Coach Kyle Shanahan said after Wednesday's practice that no one from the 49ers has reached out to Brock about a potential return.

Prosecutors initially charged Brock with punching his girlfriend in the face and attempting to strangle her multiple times during a disagreement over what to watch on TV.

Brock still could face NFL discipline.

Brock, 28, played the past seven seasons for the 49ers, starting 40 games and recording 11 interceptions. He signed with the team as an undrafted rookie in 2010. Brock was scheduled to make $3.1 million this season in the final year of a four-year, $14 million extension.

Since releasing Brock, the 49ers have turned to younger cornerbacks, including potential starters Rashard Robinson, Dontae Johnson and Keith Reaser.
