Case against Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner continues despite fresh alibi claims

The case against Maddie McCann suspect Christian Brueckner is not about to fold, prosecutors insisted yesterday.

It’s been claimed he has an alibi and details are to be revealed in a Channel 5 documentary.

But German authorities have dismissed the claims.

Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said: “If I had an alibi and was accused of this, I would say it.

Prosecutors claim Madeleine McCann was taken by Christian Brueckner (PA)

"But I have heard no such claims from Brueckner or his lawyer.”

German Brueckner, 45, was living in a camper van near Praia da Luz in the Algarve the night three-year-old Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday flat in May 2007.

Last year, a friend of Brueckner gave him an alibi but later told a German paper she could not recall if she was with him.

German prosecutors hope to charge Brueckner with raping an Irish waitress in the Algarve in 2004.

He is currently in jail for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005.

He denies involvement in Madeleine’s case and has refused to speak to investigators.
