
A snow plow removes snow from the street in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture, on Friday morning. The coldest air to arrive in Japan this winter brought snow to areas along the Sea of Japan and in mountains, with the first snow of the season observed at 11 locations, including Osaka, Saga and Tsu.
In Kyoto, the roofs of Kinkakuji temple were covered with a thin layer of snow Friday morning. The city saw snowfall for the second time this winter, with the first snow of the season coming Dec. 9.
The strongly wintry pressure pattern is expected to last until Sunday.
