In Nicolas Carter’s first concert as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s principal conductor, he takes on the first chapter from Wagner’s epic 16-hour Ring Cycle.
The introductory chapter explores a dark, mythical German forest where the exhausted Siegmund stumbles into the home of Sieglinde. The upward surge of music takes the characters from uneasy introductions to passionate declarations of love.
The orchestra will also perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, with Canadian violist James Ehnes as soloist.
