Carte'Are Gordon, who is rated as high as the No. 9 junior in the country by ESPN, announced on Twitter Wednesday morning that he has committed to play basketball at St. Louis University.
Gordon will play at Webster Groves (Mo.) High this season but will not be eligible until late January after transferring from Vianney in St. Louis.
The 6-foot-8 forward announced Tuesday night that he had reduced his choices to SLU, Missouri and Kansas. He is rated No. 16 by Rivals and No. 41 by Scout in the class of 2018. He cannot sign with SLU until next November.
Gordon was a standout this summer for the USA Men's Basketball U17 team that won a gold medal at the FIBA World Championships in Spain.
He is the first player from the 2018 class to commit to SLU, which has received two commitments for 2017.
"I would like to first off thank God, my grandparents and all of my coaches I've had in my career so far," he wrote. "But after long consideration and prayers and discussion with family, I would like to announce that I will be attending St. Louis University!!"
This is the second big area commitment for first-year coach Travis Ford and assistant coach Corey Tate. In August, senior Jordan Goodwin from Althoff Catholic in Belleville, Ill., announced that he had chosen SLU over the likes of Mizzou, Illinois, Michigan State and Purdue, among others. Goodwin said that his relationship with Tate, who had coached him with the St. Louis Eagles, played "a big role" in his commitment.
Goodwin, a 6-4 guard/forward, is ranked No. 56 by Rivals.com and No. 52 by Scout.com.
