Carson Wentz was the NFC East’s best passer from the pocket last season

Carson Wentz had a down season in 2018, especially if you’re judging him off the standards of a guy who was on his way to winning the NFL’s MVP trophy before tearing an ACL against the Rams in LA. Wentz had some huge highs and some miserable lows, including having to miss the remainder of the season with an injury, while watching Nick Foles lead the Eagles on another postseason playoff run. With some calling for his job and insinuating that Wentz took a step backward in 2018, he still did a lot of good things under center.

Despite battling a back injury, and inconsistent play at times, Wentz was still the highest rated quarterback, when graded from inside the pocket in the NFC East during 2018’s regular season according to Pro Football Focus.

Wentz threw for 3,074 passing yards and 21 touchdowns while playing only 11 games last season. Those numbers while not MVP worthy, are impressive considering he less than a year removed from a torn ACL and had to deal with losing both his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach to new jobs.

With the addition of DeSean Jackson as a deep threat, and Jordan Howard as a credible running threat, expect Wentz’s numbers to approach the 5,000 yards passing and 40+ touchdowns that many expect from a talent like Carson.
