PHILADELPHIA � Carson Wentz suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs in the Eagles' preseason opener on Thursday. There is no exact timetable for his return, but the team hopes to have Wentz back "before the end of the preseason."
Wentz felt discomfort and soreness early in practice on Saturday. He did not participate in team drills and underwent a CT scan after practice. That revealed the injury.
Wentz hurt his ribs on a hit to the area on his second-to-last play on Thursday. Coach Doug Pederson initially thought Wentz was sore and did not expect him to miss time until Wentz underwent the medical examination Saturday afternoon.
The injury takes away key development time for Wentz, who was going to receive valuable practice and playing time in the preseason before sitting to start the regular season.
