Carson Wentz signed cap friendly deal that will allow Eagles to remain competitive

Carson Wentz is all about the team, and although the numbers in his new contract are massive, the Eagles star quarterback still left room for Howie Roseman to continue wheeling and dealing. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL.com, Wentz signed now because he wanted the security of a new deal while freeing up more cash and cap to spend elsewhere, thus allowing the Eagles to stay at the top of the heap.

The Eagles could have waited to extend Wentz, considering he’s suffered season-ending injuries in each of the past two seasons. With Jared Goff, Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes on the horizon, both Wentz and Howie Roseman did the best thing for the organization, getting the deal out the way, while allowing cap flexibility if his yearly hit falls in line with the $25 million per season some have been throwing around. The Eagles could have paid more and had the 26-year-old quarterback won MVP this season, we might be talking about Carson Wentz as the first $200 million man.

Now the city is talking about the Eagles star as the teams’ unquestioned leader and face of the franchise for years to come.
