Carson Wentz’s foot injury had NFL fans prepared for Nick Foles to join the Colts

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz has had just about the unluckiest career arc. He was picked second overall by the Eagles in 2016, and just when he looked like a potential MVP, he suffered a season-ending injury in 2017. Nick Foles took over to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl title in his absence.

Wentz was never the same player after returning from ACL surgery as injuries plagued the next couple seasons. Then, he was traded to the Colts this offseason.

And, well, history could be repeating itself in Indianapolis.

On Monday, Colts head coach Frank Reich revealed that Wentz would need foot surgery, which will sideline him for 5 to 12 weeks.

Wentz’s absence leaves the Colts awfully thin at quarterback as Jacob Eason, Sam Ehlinger and the newly signed Brett Hundley are what the Colts have to go forward with.

Meanwhile, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy has acknowledged the outside trade interest in Foles. And the Colts clearly need a reliable option in Wentz’s absence.

Could we see the Wentz-Foles saga play out all over again in Indianapolis? NFL fans were certainly prepared for that possibility.
