Carson Wentz on mentoring Eagles rookie QB Jalen Hurts: I’m going to be there for him

Carson Wentz has been embroiled in some type of quarterback controversy since his rookie season back in 2016, and now the established veteran will look another challenger in the eyes.

The Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in the second-round to help solidify the backup quarterback spot while making the team more athletic. While some felt it was a good move from a personnel standpoint, others point at it as direct competition for Wentz’s job.

Wentz has always taken the high road and when asked about his impending relationship with Hurts, the Eagles franchise star made it clear that he’ would support the rookie from Oklahoma, while helping him become the best player he can be.

Wentz talked about evolving as a leader and taking on more of a vocal role for the Eagles who’ll need their star to help navigate one of the most difficult seasons in league history.

The response also brings clarity to Hurts saying that he and Wentz were unable to connect due to the “weird offseason” caused by the pandemic. Wentz reiterated that a weird type of camp and offseason won’t change his overall approach to how he helps Jalen Hurts this season and that should go a long way towards ensuring the Eagles’ ultimate team success.
