Carson Wentz gives Sam Howell his suite for 1st career start

Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell made his first career start Sunday, leading his team to a resounding 26-6 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Howell said he had over 20 family members and friends in town for his first start, in which he completed 11 of 19 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and interception. He also rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown.

After the game, he revealed that former starting quarterback Carson Wentz did something special for him and his family. Wentz gave Howell his suite for the game so that Howell could host his family.

Howell was appreciative.

“I had a lot of family in town, and Carson, this tells the type of guy he is, he gave me his suite for the game,” Howell said. “I know a lot of people said some negative things about Carson, but he’s just an unbelievable human being. He’s just awesome to be around. For him to give me his suite for my first start, means a lot.”

Howell praised Wentz and Taylor Heinicke for both being so supportive of him throughout his rookie season. It was Heinicke who reportedly convinced head coach Ron Rivera to allow Howell the chance to start the finale.

As for Wentz, his tenure in Washington may be over, but one narrative that we can certainly dispel is the one of him being a bad teammate. Throughout the offseason into the season, Wentz’s teammates praised him. While he may have struggled at quarterback, he left a good impression on those he shared a locker room with over the past year.
