Carson Palmer came under fire from a Cincinnati Bengals perspective earlier this offseason over the idea he’d influence Joe Burrow in a negative manner.
That was never the case and Palmer himself showed up on the Pat McAfee Show this week and shot such an idea down.
Palmer said there is “zero” validity to the narrative Burrow training with Carson’s brother, Jordan, would influence things. Carson said he’d tell a prospect his experiences if asked but would never try to project his situation onto a prospect’s future.
“Joe is extremely mature and extremely bright. It doesn’t give him the credit he deserves to think that, ‘well, some old, washed up quarterback came in and told him not to go there so he’s not gonna go there.’ That’s not the truth.”
We’ve long maintained that Palmer never advised Burrow to avoid the Bengals. When he spoke earlier this offseason, he merely told the honest truth about how he felt — he felt that while he was a player there, the Bengals weren’t invested in winning. Otherwise, he actually complimented the job director of player personnel Duke Tobin has done since he left.
As always, context is critical, especially during draft season. Carson’s situation and Burrow training with Jordan was never anything more than it seemed regardless of how speculation painted it on a national level.
