Carson Palmer has some interesting thoughts on Joe Burrow to the Bengals

Count Carson Palmer among those who could see the Cincinnati Bengals taking Joe Burrow at No. 1 in the 2020 NFL draft.

The former Bengals franchise passer said the Bengals “desperately” need a quarterback despite both Burrow and Chase Young making sense.

While praising Burrow, he also noted something most don’t about his skill set that makes him so special — his legs. Here’s part of an excellent Palmer interview from Draft Wire’s Justin Melo:

“He’s more athletic than people give him credit for. We’ve seen him use his legs a little bit and I think that’s an underrated trait to his game. Quarterbacks running in the SEC typically translate over well to the pro game. If you can run, take off and get 10 yards here and there against SEC defenses, there’s a good chance that you can do that at the NFL level as well. He’s that type of athlete and he has a dynamic skill-set.”

It’s good on Palmer to highlight one of the points that don’t come up often when chatting about Burrow. Everybody knows about the solid arm, mental side of his game and the wicked upswing in play he had this year while shredding the SEC.

But the mobility aspect of it is more important than ever in today’s game and indeed, if Burrow was navigating the pocket well and picking up gains with his feet in the SEC, he’s probably going to do it just as well at the pro level.

While Palmer hasn’t always been a fan favorite of Bengals faithful, he’s merely the latest to praise Burrow, the guy likely to be the first opening-round quarterback drafted by the Bengals since Palmer himself.
