Carsen Edwards goes for 33, Tacko Fall double-doubles for Red Claws

The trio of Boston Celtics players driving much of the Maine Red Claws’ success this season may not have come away with the win Friday, but there were still promising signs to be had.

The Claws dropped a game to the Long Island Nets (the G League affiliate of the eponymous Brooklyn club) 111-102 on the road, but Celtics rookie Carsen Edwards seems to have shook the funk following his game since the beginning of a season now half over.

Shooting 11-of-27 and 4-of-9 from deep, the Purdue product put up 33 points, pulled down 7 boards and had 3 steals, a major step forward for a player Boston likely anticipates being able to provide some depth scoring by season’s end.

It wasn’t enough to come away with the win, but his fellow Celtic teammates also put up solid numbers in the loss.

Fan favorite Tacko Fall logged yet another double-double with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks, while two way floor general Tremont Waters recorded 10 points, 6 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals.

While the comparatively down night for Waters didn’t help Boston’s G League affiliate come away with the win, it’s probably unreasonable to expect him to dominate every night.

Feeding the hot hand of Edwards was the right move, as it was late defensive lapses that ultimately cost Maine the win and getting the former Boilermaker back on track bodes well, assuming it sticks.
