Carsen Edwards agrees to four-year, $4.5 million deal with Celtics

According to the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the Boston Celtics have come to terms with rookie point guard Carsen Edwards — who the Celtics selected with the 33rd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft after acquiring his draft rights from the Philadelphia 76ers — on a four-year, $4.5 million rookie deal. The contract, which will be fully guaranteed, will keep Edwards on the roster through at least the 2022-23 season.

Edwards has impressed throughout the Summer League and Celtics coaches appear to have already penciled the playmaker as their second unit point guard. He’s averaged 17.4 points per game (five games) in Las Vegas while shooting a sparkling 50.9 percent from the field and 48.6 percent on corner threes (on 7.4 attempts per game.

The 21-year-old spent three seasons with the Purdue Boilermakers and is a two-time All-American. He’s the last rookie to be signed after point guard Tremont Waters signed a two-way contract and first-round picks Romeo Langford and Grant Williams inked their deals earlier in the week.
