Cars written off after drivers have lucky escape from M6 crash

Two drivers had a lucky escape when their cars were written off in a brutal motorway smash this morning.

Police said the two vehicles were involved in a serious accident on the M6, near Junction 31 at Preston, at around 5am.

A black car hit the central reservation and ground to a halt, stranded between lanes three and four of the motorway.

A white car then smashed into the rear of the first vehicle, leaving two lanes of the M6 covered in debris.

Photos show significant damage to the vehicles, with the front and rear of the black car and the front of the white car caved in.

However, Lancashire Police's roads unit said the occupants miraculously only suffered minor injuries.

Officers tweeted: "1st hits central res & is stranded lanes 3/4. 2nd car then hits 1st one!!

"Debris everywhere! Lucky drivers both minor injuries. All clear now.

"Apologies if any delays caused. Blame them not us!!"

Lancashire Police said it was unable to provide further details of the incident and it is not known if any arrests were made.
