Cars vandalised as thugs go on wrecking spree around Ayr

Thugs launched a wrecking spree on cars in Ayr last night.

The vandals targeted a number of parked vehicles around the town under the cover of darkness.

Furious motorists took to social media to report their cars had been smashed up.

Ayr dad Brian Cassells discovered the window of his wife's car had been put through in Hawkhill Avenue.

He told Ayrshire Live: "Whoever it was has taken something heavy to the window and completely smashed it.

"We found a child's scooter left lying in the middle of the street so they might have used that, it certainly weighed enough.

"It's just unbelievable that people would choose to spend their time doing this."

Reports of cars being targeted at various locations across the town have also appeared on social media this morning.

Ayr's popular Redstone Bar was among those to say a vehicle outside its front door had been smashed up.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.50pm on Sunday, February 21, we received a report of vandalism to a vehicle on Blackfriars Court in Ayr.

"A couple of hours later, around 8.15pm, we received a subsequent report of vandalism to a vehicle on Hawkhill Avenue in Ayr.

"Enquires into both incidents are ongoing, officers are keeping an open mind as to whether or not they may be linked."
