Cars melted after being torched in targeted attacks at construction firm as cops probe CCTV

Shocking pictures show two motors gutted in a series of 'targeted' firebug attacks at a Scots construction firm.

Emergency services were called to I&H Brown on Perth's Dunkeld Road - the city's 'motor mile' - around 11.30pm on Wednesday night amid reports that a white Peugeot Bipper van had been torched.

Footage captured by a passing driver shows fire engines, police vehicles and an ambulance gathered outside I&H Brown’s offices in the aftermath of the blaze.

It came after the firm had a Vauxhall Astra set alight at around 9pm the previous Saturday.

Both attacks are understood to have been caught on CCTV, with detectives now probing the footage as part of their investigation.

The interiors of both the van and car were completely destroyed in the inferno, with the body of each vehicle suffering severe fire damage.

The firm's building also suffered damage after the fire spread from the van, with pictures showing black tarpaulin covering the exterior.

Employees are said to be alarmed by the attacks, but do not have an explanation as to why their vehicles and workplace were targeted.

An I&H Brown company spokesperson said: “We don’t have any comment to make at this time.

“It is a police matter and we have provided them with CCTV to assist them with their investigation.”

Local residents described hearing a “bang” when the first vehicle was torched at the weekend.

One woman, who lives close to the office, said: “I didn’t hear the noise last night but on Saturday night I thought I heard this ‘bang’ - it sounded like someone crashing into something.

"Then a fire engine came along.”

Another resident added: “You hear the sirens all the time so I wasn’t aware that there had been a couple of fires - but it’s quite worrying when it’s just across the road.”

Police confirmed they are treating the incidents are targeted, and are appealing to anybody who may have information to come forward.

Constable Robert Roger, from Perth Police Station, said: “If you were traveling in the Dunkeld Road area around 11.30pm last night and saw anything suspicious, it could prove vital to our enquiries.

“This includes if you have any possible dashcam footage of individuals in the area.

“If you can assist our investigation, please call 101, quoting incident 4016 of 20 October. “Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
