Cars damaged after hitting debris left by lorry on M8 and M77 motorways

Police are appealing for witnesses after a lorry left debris on the M77 and M8 motorways this morning.

Around 9am, the the northbound lane on the M77 at J1 Dumbreck through to the northbound carriageway of the M8 near to J19 Charing Cross were strewn with a large quantity of rocks, bricks and soil from the vehicle travelling on these roads.

A number of vehicles were damaged after colliding with the debris. The roads were closed to allow the safe clearing and diversions were put in place, causing a heavy build-up of traffic.

Constable Alan Musgrave of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit said: "I am appealing to any drivers who may have been on these roads and who may have witnessed anything which might help us.

"I would also ask anyone who was in a vehicle fitted with a dash-cam to check the device to see if it has captured any footage which might assist us. Callers should use the 101 number and quote the reference 0687 of 5 February."
