Cars crash on M62 after drivers 'lose control' in wet weather

A section of the M62 was blocked this evening while North West Motorway Police deal with two separate vehicle crashes along the stretch.

Police have said wet weather is creating hazardous driving conditions along the motorway.

The two separate incidents have taken place along a stretch of the M62 motorway heading eastbound at Junction 7, close to Warrington Road at Rainhill Stoops.

It is understood the motorway remains partially blocked as patrols are at the scenes dealing with the incidents although traffic is believed to be coping well.

North west Motorway Police posted about the incident on social media this evening, advising drivers to take extra care in the adverse weather conditions.

A spokesperson on the North West Motorway Police Twitter account said: "MC patrols are currently dealing with two separate RTC (road traffic collisions) on the M62 EB [eastbound] at J7 caused by people losing control in the wet conditions.

The North West Motorway Police spokesperson also warned drivers to take extra care in the adverse weather conditions, adding: "Please lower your speeds and drive safely if out on the roads this evening."

Travel Monitor Inrix states traffic is "responding well".
