Cars banned from Glasgow parks after hundreds of cars flocked to them during lockdown

Cars have been banned from entering Glasgow 's parks after floods of people flocked to the open spaces during the lockdown.

Council bosses have announced that no vehicles can now enter- but pedestrians and cyclists are still allowed.

The move comes after hundreds drove to parks around the city in the past week despite restrictions on non-essential travel during the coronavirus outbreak.

A statement from Glasgow City Council read: "Our parks are now are closed to all vehicles. Pedestrians & cyclists can still use local parks for daily exercise but please continue to follow Government and NHS guidance.

"Only authorised vehicles are allow entry to the parks until further notice."

Cops across the country have been using drones and other technology to make sure people are obeying the two metre social distancing rule.

There was outrage last week when a group of four were spotted by a police drone gathering in Pollock park.

There were also problems at parks in Lanarkshire.

Locals fumed as cars mobbed Strathclyde Park, Motherwell, despite the strict lockdown rules.

And police were called out by frustrated residents after drivers flock to Chatelherault Country Park, Hamilton, on Tuesday.
