Cars and action galore as West Lothian’s stockcar stars take to the track

It was in a warm and sunny Skegness where Longridge’s Nicole Russell made her saloon debut.

There were plenty of cars and action galore as West Lothian’s stockcar stars took to the track.

Former national hot rod world champion Robert McDonald joined Nicole in swapping non-contact cars to the full contact saloons.

Neither managed to qualify for the final through their heats and both were in action in the consolation and despite being in a heavy shunt, Russell managed to finish in eighth place.

McDonald had been running in the top five when he was caught up in a shunt and failed to finish.

Armadale’s Jordan Cassie had qualified for the final through his heat, but Russell failed to start due the damage received in her shunt.

The final was fast and exciting but Cassie wasn’t classified. Broxburn’s Colin Forbes’ only finish of the night came in the grand national where he ended up in ninth place.

On Saturday both the formula Twos and saloons were running in qualifying heats, with Cassie picking up two fifth place finishes.

However, McDonald had his car up on two wheels at one point.

Whilst Cassie had qualified through the heats for the UK championship, McDonald had to run in the last chance qualifying round where a fourth spot
saw him start the race from the rear of the field.

The race was hectic, with numerous stoppages, shunts and spins, with Warren Darby from the South West winning.

And while both Cassie and McDonald gave a good account of themselves neither was classified.

Forbes never managed a clear run in his formula II heats or the consolation races and didn’t start the UK championship, which was won by Gordon Noodie.
