'Carry on with the jokes' - Steven Gerrard slams Everton after Nathan Patterson transfer offer

Steven Gerrard has taken aim at Everton following their approach for Rangers defender Nathan Patterson.

The ECHO reported on Sunday evening that the Blues have had an approach for the right-back rejected by the Scottish Premiership champions.

Glasgow-born Patterson came through the ranks at Ibrox and is contracted until the summer of 2024

The Blues want to strengthen their right-back options before the close of the transfer window and Patterson would be seen as one for the future.

The youngster was kept on the bench as the Gers claimed a 4-2 win over Ross County in Dingwall yesterday.

And speaking in the immediate aftermath to the game, Gerrard claimed he was yet to have been informed of any bid by anyone at the Ibrox club.

However, the former Liverpool captain is adamant that it will take a lot more than the reported £5million fee for the Gers to agree to sell Patterson.

He said: “You carry on with the jokes – £5m, wow. Look, I’ve only just been told about this.

“It hasn’t been brought to my attention by anyone above me at the club. I’ll ask the question when I go back on the bus but if you’re going to talk about Nathan Patterson you need to get real.

“£5m is, I don’t know, that’s definitely come out of a joke book surely. I don’t make the decisions in terms of when the right numbers are hit.

“All the players have got a price, we’ve said this so many times. We want to keep all our best players, especially our homegrown and local ones.

“There’s a big future here for Nathan. He’s got to be patient and he’ll get game time and minutes.

“We’re delighted with him, he’s not someone we’re looking to move on but every single person has got a number. But let me tell you now, £5m is so far away it’s unreal.”
